Carrying Forward Nelmer’s Legacy

Nelmer had goals he wanted to achieve, unfortunately, he ran out of time. I am setting this charity up with the aim to reach those goals with friends and family side by side, remembering the legend that he was.

These are the things that we want to do.

Nelmer really appreciated the little things that helped make chemo better.  We will be working with the Bristol Oncology Centre initially to provide Gift bags/Comfort bags that can be given to patients on the chemo wards undergoing treatment.  They will contain useful products such as eye masks, ear plugs, PICC line covers, chocolate, etc. and are being developed in conjunction with the ward sisters and matrons.

We also want to be able to provide meals for people who may not have the energy to cook for themselves whilst undergoing chemo treatment.  We know from experience that particularly with colorectal cancers, sometimes the last thing you feel like doing is eating, but it is so important to maintain energy and strength.  We are still working on the logistics and plans for this, but it will eventually be a service that is run in line with the Food Standard Agency’s guidelines for safe food preparation and distribution.

We want to campaign to have the current screening lowered from 55, for colorectal cancer.

When we were going through our “new normal” and attending chemo and hospital appointments, we sat and talked about how you just don’t realise how many people are affected by cancer,  and we especially found it hard to know that children were going through this. So, the charity has a long term goal of purchasing a caravan-
“Nelmers place” to be able to bring smiles to small faces and their families.

So this is something he would be so happy to know we are doing, as part of his legacy.
